Robot as an Constructive Learning Tool for Computer Programming: the Practices in Taiwan

How to effectively and efficiently train enough programmer has become a very important issue to the education system. In tradition, the computer programming training is an part of the undergraduate program in the universities. In the 21st century, the computer programming training is subsumed under the K12 curriculum, especially the high school stage, in more and more countries. But in the high school stage, the students are still without enough abstract thinking ability and mathematical/logical training. How to design the computer programming learning contents and activities for the high school students is still a difficult challenge. In this paper, we propose a constructive learning experiment in Taiwan, which use the robot as a concrete tool in order to introduce computer programming to the high school students. We expect the concrete experience can reduce the influence of abstract thinking scantiness.
