Automated testing application for a novel playback functionality on a real time-domain relay

This paper presents an application, developed in Python, that releases the potential for extensive testing capabilities on a real time-domain relay. Such development is relevant since most of the commercially available testing equipment cannot reproduce the required fidelity for traveling wave testing. The proposed application automates the original procedure offered by the relay's manufacture, as the amount of required user inputs turns the original application time-consuming and prone to errors whether multiple test scenarios are involved. Additionally, the developed application advantage is demonstrated in terms of time reduction over the original method and by presenting a sample analysis in order to illustrate what could be achieved with the proposed tool in terms of relay evaluation.
