A Problem Taxonomy for Engineering

Society is increasingly looking to engineers to engage with social and environmental problems. These problems are generally “wicked problems,” in that they are ill-structured and they have no predefined solutions. This article presents a study of the types of problems that engineering students are asked to solve using a proposed taxonomy of problems and solution spaces [1].
