Design and Modeling of an Ultra-Efficient 3x3 SSG-1 Reversible Gate for Nanoscale Applications

In VLSI designing, there are three performance metrics: area, cost and power. The area should be as minimum as possible. The cost and power dissipation should also be low. The promising solution for low power and low area circuits is reversible computing. Reversible logics are used in various technologies such as CMOS low power circuits, quantum computing and quantum dot cellular automata (QCA) nanotechnology. This approach has broad range of applications including basic universal gates, adders, and multipliers. Therefore, an extensive work has been proposed till date in designing reversible gates. In this paper, a new 3x3 SSG-I reversible gate is proposed that is also inherently multifunctional and universal in nature. The future scope of reversible logic has also been discussed with the possible application areas. This approach produces better, more consistent results compared to the existing 3x3 reversible gates in the literature. The proposed design is highly cost efficient and achieves an improvement of 38.77%. Thus, making it more suitable for nano-scale applications.
