RF Energy Harvesting System for GSM900 and GSM1800 Bands

In this paper we design an RF-EH system to harvest RF signals between 900 MHz and 6 GHz. However, the harvesting is not of the same high efficiency for all bands due to resonance reasons. The system is designed to harvest efficiently the GSM-900 and GSM-1800. This paper proposes for our RF-EH system a novel Antenna which is a modified PCMA to harvest the RF signals, plus the Rectifier circuit to which is a 2-stage Dickson voltage multiplier, to transform AC to DC, and an LC matching circuit to match the Antenna impedance to that of the Rectifier. The Antenna is being simulated using the ADS software. Our Antenna achieved resonance at the 1.8 GHz with S11 = -27 dB and S11= -13 dB for the 900MHz. The efficiency for both bands was above 80%. The simulation results also showed a 10dB bandwidth from 700 MHz to 6 GHz. The Matching circuit is designed to match the Antenna's Impedance to that of the rectifier at the 1.8 GHz which also showed return loss of -25 dB in addition to high output voltage of 5V desirable for low power applications.
