Comparative Analysis of Single phase Bridgeless Buck Rectifier and Single phase Multilevel Buck Rectifier

This paper contains a comparative study of single phase bridgeless buck rectifier and single phase multilevel buck rectifier. Buck converters are basically used for low voltage applications. The bridgeless buck rectifier produces more THD than a multilevel topology, also high switching frequencies are used to implement buck rectifier topology. But for a multilevel buck rectifier topology, quite lesser switching frequencies are used for hardware implementations. The multilevel buck rectifier topology does not require a bulky input AC side EMI filter and a bulky DC side inductive filter. From the overall analysis it was observed that the multilevel buck topology has more advantage than the bridgeless buck topology. Closed loop control has been implemented for both the topologies and was evaluated under 24 V single phase AC supply to deliver an output of 20 V DC.
