QoS Measurement and Analysis of GSM-R System with LTE Interference

Due to the scarce spectrum resource, the E-UTRA Band 8 (880-915MHz for uplink and 925-960MHz for downlink) which is originally allocated to GSM system deployment will be reformed to LTE system deployment in China. However, the uplink and downlink of GSM for Railway (GSM-R) system of China are deployed at 885-889MHz and 935-954MHz, respectively. To avoid GSM-R system interfered by LTE and impacting the safety of railway operating, in this paper we evaluate the impact of LTE system on the quality of service (QoS) of GSM-R system when the two system are deployed in the same frequency band. A measurement system is built in laboratory to measure the influence of interference of LTE system on GSM-R system performance. Based on the measurement results, we provide the suggestions about LTE system deployment strategy near the railway area.
