Optimization of Dynamic Characteristics of an Internal Combustion Engine with Opposing Pistons

Design of opposed-piston internal combustion engine (ICE) with crossed axes of cylinders. This design scheme has certain advantages if applied for the light-weight and unmanned aerial vehicles applications. The engine parameters were optimized in order to obtain the minimum mass-inertia characteristics. The investigation was carried out using vector modeling and an optimization unit of the KDAM software package. The results obtained make possible to design a more highspeed, economical and reliable engine with a less loaded design, which has a lower mass than the ICE based on the classical scheme.
