Survey on Computational Entomology: Sensors based Approaches to Detect and Classify the Fruit Flies

India is an agriculture country which rest on agriculture and crops for its financial survival. Mango (MangiferaIndica L) is the commercial fruit crop also called as “King of Fruits” major fruit crop in India and India ranks first for mango production in world producing 50% of total production. Different types of fruit flies such as B. Dorsalis, Ceratitiscosyra, Mango Tipborer, Helopeltis, and Red banded thrips etc are the major pests of mango fruits. These mango fruit flies cause high, annual crop losses by laying eggs on the mango fruit surface, these eggs hatch and the larvae feed inside the fruit results in fruit drops or its quality degradation. Monitoring traps are important components of integrated pest management programs used against fruit flies. Development of sensors based computational entomology practices allow us to take recovering decision based on evidence received from data monitoring. Here we report a survey on different techniques used in detection and classification of targeted insects by using their characteristic and morphological features to indicate the targeted species population density.
