Application of Laser Build-Up Welding for Repair of Die Casting Molds

This paper deals with investigation of the possibility for application of laser build-up welding for repairing of die casting molds. The surfaces of the molds, made of 1.2365 (32 CrMoV12-28) and 1.2453 (X130W5) steels, (DIN) are buildup welded by additional material of maraging alloy with a chemical composition 0.02C-19.3Ni-0.4V-2Cr-14.5CO-4.7Mo0.25Al-0.2Mn-0.2Si (wt%) and respectively nickel based alloy 73.8Ni-19.5Cr-2.8Mn-1.9Fe-2.5Nb. Some aspects of applying the build-up welding in practice are discussed. As a result of the present investigation, conclusions are made about the application of a specific additional material in the process of build-up welding depending on the alloy melting temperature.
