Design and Analysis of Hybrid Active Power Filter for Current Harmonics Mitigation

This paper focuses on modelling, designing and simulation of a cost effective hybrid filter for compensation of current harmonics from source current. The presented hybrid filter consists of two single tuned passive power filter tuned to the 5

and 7
^th
component of fundamental frequency. Whereas shunt active power filter is designed to compensate higher order of harmonics. This reduces the kVA rating of shunt active filter. Detailed design of passive filter and active filter is presented in this paper. Various simulation results are presented to validate the performance of proposed filter using MATLAB/SIMULINK environment. The control algorithm to control active filter is successfully implemented in dSPACE/ds1104 board and experimental results are presented showing unity power factor and low current THD at source side.
