Corrugated beat-wave TE/sub 0n//TE/sub 11/ mode converters

High power linearly polarized corrugated waveguide mode converters have been developed to transform the high-order TE/sub 0n/ mode output wave from a gyrotron into the fundamental waveguide mode TE/sub 11/ mode. The converter consists of rippled wall perturbations of a cylindrical waveguide. The bandwidth is predicted to be inversely promotional to the period number. A four-period TE/sub 03//TE/sub 11/ converter with azimuthal perturbations m/sub c/=1 has yielded a peak conversion efficiency of 95% and bandwidth of about 3%.
