Multi-phase Auto- and Transformer Rectifier System for Aircraft

This paper presents the results of studies of 18-pulse auto- and transformer-rectifier units used to obtain direct current on aircraft. A brief overview of existing rectifier systems and features of their work is provided. The basic mathematical equations and vector diagrams explaining the principle of the formation of a 9-phase rectifying system using an autotransformer-rectifier unit is presented. In addition, the results of computer simulation of an 18-pulse transformer rectifier unit are given and the main parameters are defined. A feature of the transformer is the use of amorphous alloy to reduce the specific no-load losses. Developed computer model makes it possible to determine the distribution of the saturation magnetic flux density along the magnetic core, to determine the voltage and currents flowing through the windings of the electrodes and the load, to determine the losses in the converter. The uses of such a computer model in the calculations of transformer-rectifier units helps speed up the design time, as well as determine the shape of the input and output signals.
