Quantification Analysis of Ethanol Mixtures using Cary 630 FTIR Spectrometer

In this study, the effect of the warming-up time on the performance of the Cary 630 FTIR spectrometer is investigated in the quantification of ethanol mixtures. Ethanol mixtures were prepared in deionized (DI) water and in distilled water. The absorbance intensity of ethanol was measured in three different warming-up times; no warming-up time, 5 minutes after warming up and 10 minutes after the warming-up time. Based on the results, the absorbance peak of ethanol is found to be about 9581 to 9564 nm. The relationship between the absorbance intensity and the concentration of ethanol shows 99.99% of linearity after the spectroscopy setup was warmed up for 10 minutes. Hence, it refers to 99.99% fulfillment towards the Beer's Lambert Law in which the absorbance of light is directly proportional to the given concentration. On top of that, the absorbance intensity of ethanol measured in DI water is higher than the absorbance intensity measured in distilled water.
