Interconnecting Sensor Data and Datacubes

Within the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC), different data models have evolved for the provision of sensor data (Observation Model) and datacubes (Coverage Model). While these models are formally distinct, there are great similarities; in addition, they are often used conjunctively, as each model provides relevant information missing from the other model. In this paper, we show how both models can be utilized concurrently, thus overcoming the deficits of the other model. We detail where constraints should be applied to attributes of the individual models to assure consistency between the data being provided, and go on to show how OGC Web Services can be utilized to provide this data in a consistent and user friendly manner. Finally, we provide insights as to how these models may be harmonized within OGC.
