Experiment and Simulation of Steel Core Crimping and Breaking of Large Cross-Section Conductor

The Large-section wire transmission will be widely used as an independent development of UHV transmission technology. However, after the crimping of the transmission line is completed, the internal defects of the crimping tube are not easily found. Internal defects such as internal steel core surface scratches and broken strands severely reduce the current carrying capacity and mechanical strength of the transmission line. In this paper, the JL/G1A-400/35 large-section conductor steel core was crimped and broken. It was found that the steel core after crimping was easily broken, and the strength of the steel core after crimping was smaller than the theoretical calculation. This shows that the steel core has greater damage during the crimping process and reduces the tensile strength. In this paper, the pull-off simulation calculations of the two kinds of steel core damage types after crimping are carried out, and the influence of the steel core damage on the maximum breaking force during the crimping process is obtained, which can provide reference for the optimization of the crimping process.
