Design and Development of Differential Boost Inverter Fed Induction Motor Drive

A boost inverter or boost DC-AC converter fed induction motor drive instead of the conventional Voltage Source Inverter (VSI) is projected here. It produces an AC voltage higher than DC input, based on the instantaneous duty cycle. This novelty is not possible in the classical VSI. This new topology can be utilized in AC drives when an AC voltage higher than DC link voltage is required, without any dual power conversion stage. This involves connecting two DC-DC boost converters and altering their outputs such that the differential voltage is a sinusoidal voltage of required magnitude and frequency. The minimum switch count needed and high output voltage power quality are additional merits. A variable frequency induction motor drive can be designed. The simulation model was developed in PSIM simulation platform and hardware prototype was also implemented.
