Recognition of stress levels among students with wearable sensors

Stress is an inevitable part of student life. The intense pressure of achieving high grades, maintaining a social life, dealing with financial obligations while away from family home present challenges that college students must deal with every day. This puts a huge amount of pressure on passing every exam in written form or during the presentation. Timely recognition of stress can be helpful to individuals by providing them with different stress- coping mechanisms. Wearable sensors allow for real-time monitoring of students physiological signals that can be closely related to stress. In this paper, we have monitored ten students with wearable sensors in order to recognize the stress levels experienced by students during exams. Features of the electrocardiogram and electro dermal activity signals were used as input to different classification methods. Obtained results indicate recognition accuracy between 86-91% for three classes, including relax state, written exam, and oral exam.
