Equivalent Circuit Analysis of Complementary FSS for Selective EM Shielding

In this paper, an array of complementary periodic Jerusalem cross FSS element has been discussed for effective electromagnetic (EM) shielding application. A simple equivalent circuit (EC) in conjunction with transmission line (TL) model is used to analyze the response of two closely coupled complementary conducting elements printed on either side of the substrate. The described EC method can predict the scattering parameters with high accuracy. Further, an extensive parametric study of CFSS is performed to analyze its frequency response. The CFSS exhibits a highly stable response with two controllable passbands for normal and oblique incidences. Such response is more suitable for allowing two bands with strong stopband between them.
