Simulation of SGEMP Using Particle-In-Cell Method Based on Conformal Technique

To overcome the shortcomings of the traditional staircased particle-in-cell (PIC) method, this paper presents the conformal PIC method to simulate the system-generated electromagnetic pulse (SGEMP) produced by the X-ray beam. One advantage of this method is to accurately simulate the electromagnetic response from the boundary of the object, and more importantly, it can be used to simulate the emission direction of the electrons accurately by properly handling the normal direction of the curved boundary. The numerical results show that the conformal PIC method can save much more computation time and memory than the staircased PIC technique to obtain the same accurate computational results.
