A Low-Power High-Performance Sensor Node for Internet of Things

The trending concept Internet of Things (IoT) is introducing a number of possibilities in which a new system (hardware) will be designed and later deployed to make any existing system smarter. By combining internet of things and image processing a new acronym can be introduced as IoVt(Internet of Visual Things) which will be used to implement remote surveillance security, smart agriculture, etc. related applications wherein image analysis will increase the efficiency of the system. In order to process image data a high-performance and to meet the limited power requirements, a low-power sensor node will be designed. In this sensor node, the role of the controller is played by an ARM Cortex-M4 based microcontroller; it assimilates software and hardware for sensing vibration, direction, proximity and images. It also uses an IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi protocol) standard for wireless transmission.
