Single-Layer Dual-Band Subarray for 20/30 GHz Using Gap Waveguide Technology

A single-layer dual-band array antenna for K/Ka-band is proposed in the context of the so-called Gap Waveguide Technology. The challenge faced in this array is to host radiators of two quite separated bands in the same aperture. Half of the radiators work at 20 GHz and the other half at 30 GHz. The interesting features of the proposed antenna are that it is fully metallic, the radiators are fed corporately, and both radiators and network are hosted in just a single layer. Radiators are quite unconventional since they are based on slots backed by a particular realization of coaxial cavities, whose vertical size controls the working frequency, providing good compactness to the whole structure. Preliminary results are presented to demonstrate the viability of the idea.
