Studies of Large Area LED Structures on Flexible Substrates

These days the solid-state lighting (SSL) is no longer just an emerging technology but a certitude in many domestic and industrial domains. Interconnection of LEDs on flexible substrates in order to create large area structures is one of the important directions of interest for different applications as backlights for flexible displays and flexible lighting sources (LED light softboxes) or wearable devices [1]-[3]. The present work shows the results of investigations related to interconnection of mid power LEDs on flexible substrates. The investigations include the technology of LEDs interconnection and the effect of substrate on maximum power level that can be sustained by the array structure. This power level, observed through thermographical measurements, will have a value determined by the maximum allowed temperature of LEDs and of substrate. We will also present photometric measurements results, as the luminous flux.
