Jambi Traditional Market as Urban Memory

This paper focuses on the impact of the rapidly changed urban space which was formed by collective memory. A rapid change in urban development results in the loss of an essence of space that eliminates the memorable impression of the urban space. The research was completed through field observation and collecting the narration from the memory of a city. Through field observation and narration collection, we found that there was a lack of interest in the people for the traditional market that was caused due to a shift in their preference to the modernized market. The development of traditional market needed a plan that considered the improvement of the collective memory, thus the character of the city could be determined.
