Soundscape Analysis of Selected Places in Longyearbyen Area, the Settlement on Spitsbergen

Longyearbyen is the largest settlement and the administrative and tourism center of archipelago Svalbard, located in the Arctic Ocean. This settlement is located on Spitsbergen - the largest Island of the archipelago. Svalbard is interesting for many different researchers because it has an arctic climate and, at the same time, it is relatively easily accessible by plane. Climatologists, geologists, glaciologists, biologists and even anthropologists could find here interesting themes to investigate. Also the soundscape of Spitsbergen is intriguing and needs complex acoustic investigation. This paper presents comparative analysis of the soundscape of various landforms nearby Longyearbyen in Management Area 10. This analysis showed the variability and characteristic features of the natural Arctic soundscape.
