Early Diagnostics of the Pre-accident Optical Fiber Sections by Using Brillouin Reflectometer

The architecture and development of monitoring systems for fiber optical communication lines are considered. The experimental results of “problem” areas detected both by an optical time domain reflectometer and a Brillouin optical time- domain reflectometer were obtained. The recognition of the “pre- alarm” areas under mechanical stresses by traces is discussed. A benefit of the Brillouin optical time-domain reflectometer for early diagnostics is found.The work was performed with the financial support of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation within the scope of the base part of a State Assignment within the sphere of scientific activity (Project No. 8.9334.2017/8.9).
