Parameterized Study of High-Frequency Welding System

The paper deals with parameterized modeling of processes in an induction heating system for high frequency longitudinal pipe welding. The investigation has been carried out in order to estimate factors influencing the welding process, required energy and system efficiency. Time harmonic electromagnetic and transient thermal fields have been studied and distribution of the magnetic flux density, eddy currents, power losses and temperature distribution have been obtained for a number of values of system parameters: applied current, welding frequency, welding speed, and dimensions of the heat affected zone, corresponding to the `vee' angle. The presence and position of the ferrite impeder have been also taken into account. The problem was considered as coupled electromagnetic and temperature field problem taking into account real, 3D geometry of the system and has been solved using the finite element method and COMSOL 5.2 software package.
