Error estimation of velocities derived from FDTD simulated multi-offset GPR data

Finite Difference (FDTD) simulations are used in order to estimate the errors for the velocity determination from multi-offset data for an underground medium with strong velocity contrasts and dips. A method for the automatic velocity determination from multi offset data is presented which takes into account both dip corrections and long offset approximations. Different synthetic models with both positive and negative velocity contrasts, strong dips and topography form the base for FDTD simulations of Constant Offset data with offsets within the range of the layer depths. These simulations are used in order to estimate the errors for the velocity inversion method. Possible manual improvements of the resulting velocity distribution are discussed.
