Influence of Ambient Gas Pressure on Cathode Erosion Rate in a Vacuum Arc

A simple formula to calculate the cathode erosion rate due to an arc burning in ambient gas is proposed. The relatively well-known parameters are used. The formula gives the correct order of magnitude of the erosion rate and correctly describes the erosion rate dependence on the ambient pressure.
