Modern Software Programs for Cartometric Analysis

The aim of this paper is to compare two software applications for the cartometric analysis (a quantitative assessment of the planimetric properties of old maps, their accuracy and specific distortions): the well-known program MapAnalyst (http://mapanalyst.org) and the lesser known Darcy (https://sourceforge.net/projects/jdarcy). As a result, it is shown that, in spite of the fact that MapAnalyst has a wider range of options, in some cases (for example, when analyzing such maps as that of Ptolemy) Darcy proves to be more convenient and effective.
