Genesis of Russian Power Engineering

The paper deals with the theoretical and practical foundations of Russian energy industry development. The article describes the first power plants, the main type of fuel (wood, oil and coal), the country's power machine-building and three main schools: electrical engineering, thermal engineering and hydraulic engineering. Energy scientists considered that the development of hydroelectricity would begin in European Russia: Volga, Dnieper and Northern water basins. In the thermal energy industry scientists decided to build the heat power station at the locations where fuel is extracted with energy transferred by electricity power lines. The first such plant was constructed near Bogorodsk between 1912 and 1914. A meeting held in Moscow in November 1915 on coal and peat in the Greater Moscow region was dedicated to the results of the first year of service of the Power Transmission plant. The greatest response was provoked by the report made by Krzhizhanovsky. The scientist set out the finalized strategic principles of the establishment of energy facilities in the country.
