Investigation of the Coupled Volume Dielectric Barrier Discharge for Ozone Formation in Open Atmospheric Air

Dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) is a promising technology for ozone generation. In this paper, each electrode consists of tungsten rod and quartz glass. To improve the discharging efficiency, the air of the used quartz tube was evacuated. Moreover, to evaluate the performance of ozone formation, the electrical characteristics of volume DBD (VDBD) (two electrodes) and coupled VDBD (three electrodes and seven electrodes) are investigated. Under the condition of the same electric field using the COMSOL Software, the density of the current pulses is shifted to the right in the current waveforms. The results of ozone production show that a dynamic balance between ozone formation and ozone decomposes is complex at high frequency and high flow rate. The highest energy yield is 1650 g/kWh at a specific input energy of 0.6545 J/L.
