Comparison of metaheuristics applied to cascade hydro power plants

This paper proposes the use of metaheuristics in the problem of optimal scheduling on cascade hydroelectric plants, simultaneously solving the unit commitment (UC) and the economic dispatch (ED) problems. Three different methods are studied: Unified Particle Swarm Optimization (UPSO), Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Differential Evolution (DE).
