Dual band printed antenna with the stepped e-bridge DGS structure

In this paper, the micro strip rectangular patch antenna with dual slots and Deflected Ground Structure (DGS) is proposed using probe feed technique. The stepped e bridge structure places an important role to improve the performance and efficiency of the proposed antenna. The proposed antenna is designed for FR 4 substrate with dielectric constant (€
r
= 4.4). The antenna is designed for a dimensions of 29.04mm × 38.04mm with two slots having the dimensions of Slot Length (SL)= 21.04mm and Slot Width (SW)= 4mm. It is noted that the performance of the antenna in the absence of the DGS is low, while the same is enhanced with the DGS. In this work, the antenna is designed at two bands, which is mainly used for wireless LAN applications with return lossof-19.97dB at 2.49GHz and −19.05dB at 3.56GHz simulated and also the practical results of the return loss are about −26.48dB and −23.8dB. The gain produced by this micro strip rectangular patch antenna is greater than 3dB. The theoretical values of VSWR are 1.22 at the frequency of 2.4GHz and 1.25 at the frequency of 3.56GHz. The practical values of the VSWR are obtained as 1.76 and 1.53 respectively. The simulation and practical results are observed to be identical and the antenna is fabricated and tested using vector network analyzer (E5071C).
