Internet of Things-Enabled Hospital Wards: Ultrawideband Doctor-Patient Radio Channels

As ultrawideband (UWB) technology reemerges as a high data-rate solution for the Internet of Things (IoT), we consider the application of technology in medical environments. We present supporting empirical and statistical modeling investigations into body-to-body UWB IoT links for bed-bound patients and roaming clinicians conducting routine medical rounds. The statistical parameters that indicate link reliability are of interest as well as intersymbol interference (ISI) probability for patients in two likely postures with radio antenna locations for the roaming clinician (i.e., the antennas are in a handheld tablet and on the clinician?s waist) to create deployment data for futuristic IoT-enabled hospital environments.
