Sensors and control system models for wind power generation

Wind power is one of the rapidly developing sectors in every part of the world, with growth rates ranging from 10 to 40% per year. The major challenges faced are improvements in the performance of the system and reduction in the investment cost and operating cost. To reduce the payback period and provide the impetus for investment and widespread acceptance of this clean energy source, reduction of operating cost is an essential requirement. To improve the performance of the system and increase the reliability, it is important that the turbine reacts to the external environment appropriately. A key solution to this would be to have sensors installed at right place and design a good control system. This paper includes application of sensors and designing of important control systems of wind turbine like pitch control, yaw control, temperature control. The vibration analysis also has been presented. Apart from this, the fault analysis is carried out to ensure the safety of wind turbine.
