Improving system performance using electric spring with current source inverters

Electric springs is the technology to overcome problems caused due to the penetration of renewable energy. The electric spring maintains constant voltage to the critical loads and passes the fluctuation to the non-critical loads. Electric springs were realizedusing voltage source inverters. Here electric springs is realizedusing current source inverter and using a new control called direct current control. This helps in reducing THD values across critical load. Along with direct current control a harmonic suppression feature is also added along with direct current control. This control enables to get a clean and sinusoidal waveform across critical load. The direct current control is achieved using hysteresis current control. For harmonic suppression function the input current is separated into real and imaginary components with the help of the single-phase dqO transformation. By using this control strategy, the THD values of CL voltages can be greatly reduced thereby improving system performance. The proposed strategy is simulated in MATLAB Simulink platform.
