Smart spectrum awareness in future wireless communications: State-of-the-art, open challenges and the way forward

Spectrum awareness is one of the most important functions in future wireless communication systems with smart dynamic spectrum access capabilities. This talk will introduce the problem of obtaining accurate spectrum awareness information under realistic (imperfect) operation conditions and will provide an overview of existing solutions to overcome the degrading effects of practical limitations. The talk will present some application examples in recent and future technologies such as LTE Licensed Assisted Access (LAA) and will conclude with an overview of open challenges, recent research activities and future directions.
