Hydrogen Isotopes Plasma-Driven Permeation Through Sputter-Deposited Tungsten-Coated F82H

Hydrogen isotopes plasma-driven permeation (PDP) through sputter-deposited tungsten (SP-W)-coated F82H and bare F82H membranes has been investigated using a steady-state linear plasma device VEHICLE-1 in the temperature range of 250 °C-550 °C. SP-W coatings have been found to enhance PDP flux. Deuterium retention has been measured by thermal desorption spectroscopy after steady-state plasma exposure. Increased deuterium retention in tungsten-coated F82H has been observed compared with that of bare F82H. Enhanced PDP flux and increased retention are attributed to the microstructure and surface recombination characteristics of tungsten coatings.
