Network-managed localization protocol for WiMAX

In this paper, a positioning system using multicarrier (MC) transmission is proposed and a novel network-managed localization protocol is presented for Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), in which we propose three location methods. A new unified Cramer-Rao lower bound (CRLB) is derived. The best linear unbiased estimator (BLUE) is used to implement positioning and their performance is compared in terms of the positioning error covariance matrix (PECM). Theoretical analysis demonstrates that they have a better positioning accuracy performance than either a range based positioning protocol or a range-difference methods. Simulation results demonstrate a good consistency with the proposed theory.
