Design and simulation of multi layer parasitic microstrip biquad patch antenna for WLAN 2.4GHz applications

In this paper, multi layer parasitic microstrip biquad patch antenna is designed and simulated for WLAN applications at 2.4 GHz ISM band. This antenna is composed by five elements biquad patch 1/4 wavelength with addition of flat reflector. Low cost FR-4 material is used as antenna substrate. The antenna is designed and simulated using Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Microwave Studio software. The results show that return loss is -31.13 dB, VSWR of 1.05 with bandwidth of 183.42 MHz at return loss below -10 dB. This antenna has a linear polarization with unidirectional radiation pattern. Directivity is 12.28 dB and maximum gain is 11.71 dBi. Thus, the results indicated that it's a great performance of long-range antenna for WLAN's communications at operating band is possible in practice.
