Antenna microstrip using electromagnetic band gap (EBG) with circular patch for inter-satellite link (ISL) on low orbit satellite

Some instances in other countries are developing satellite constellation for certain needs. Satellite communication needs additional block that is called Inter-Satellite links (ISL). In previous research, circular polarized S-band antennas for inter-satellite link communication has been designed, but the HPBW parameters value that is generated when the antenna is attached to the satellite prototype were not ≥ 90 °. In this research, the designed antenna use orthogonal dual feeding techniques where there are two feed line with different phases of 90° to obtain circular polarization. Then, to make the antenna attached to the satellite ptototype will be added Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG). Electromagnetic Band Gap (EBG) are some square patches that are spread over substrates of a certain size and distance. EBG can suppress surface currents, improve radiation efficiency, and widen the bandwidth. So the HPBW antenna is not significantly affected by the satellite prototype and can produce HPBW ≥ 90 °. The antenna generated from this research has a HPBW of 91 ° when attached to a satellite prototype.
