Pulse width modulation control of 3 phase AC-AC matrix converter

This paper presents the principle of three-phase PWM AC-AC Matrix Converter, which is an IGBT based frequency converter that fulfills all the requirements of the formally used rectifier and inverter having a mediate dc link structures. Matrix converter converts three phase AC to AC with various voltage amplitude and output frequency directly. The advantages of Matrix Converter are such as deficiency of a dc link capacitor, both side power-flow capacity, sinusoidal input/output waveform, governable input-power factor, light weight design, and long life. Matrix Converters provide a constant instantaneous power by a symmetrical voltage-current system. They are seen as a future converter concept as these converters can serve many applications. Thus output of Matrix Converter consist harmonics. Therefore, the Pulse Width Modulation control of Matrix Converter is proposed to reduce harmonic losses and to obtain desire voltage amplitude and frequency. The Pulse Width Modulation control of Matrix Converter is described in terms of mathematics and implemented in terms of theoretical waveforms.
