Modeling and simulation using the finite element method of the vertical displacement in the nodes of a polyethylene terephthalate structure subjected to variable concentrated loads located at different points

The paper presents the results obtained in the modeling and simulation of a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) structure using SAP2000 software. The finite element method allows obtaining answers to engineering problems, by means of the approximation in the solution to equations with the help of the generation of a mesh and the nodes that compose it. It is also used successfully in obtaining displacements, deformations, and tensions, between others. On the other hand, the structure in polyethylene terephthalate is presented as an alternative to the current structures used for the transit of pedestrians and vehicles made of materials such as asphalt or cement. Additionally SAP2000 manages a three-dimensional graphical interface, automatically generating meshes with a 4-knot element, allowing the evaluation of the vertical displacement of the nodes in front of the application of variable loads in terms of their magnitude and located in different points of the upper layer of the proposed structure. The results show that the vertical displacements are admissible in the majority of the cases of the location of the load with the exception of one in particular that demonstrates values to a large extent against the values obtained in the other cases, requiring a detailed analysis For its determination as to admissibility. Furthermore, future implications in lines of research of fundamental aspects for the understanding of the behavior of structures in PET plastic destined to support pedestrian or vehicular loads will allow carrying out the evaluation of a possible technical viability of functionality.
