Electric-field control of magnetocaloric effect in FeRh-based composite

The magnetic, magnetocaloric and magnetoelectric properties of FeRh-based multiferroic composite were studied around room temperature. The maximum of magnetocaloric effect and the high magnetoelectric ordering around the antiferromagnetic-ferromagnetic phase transition temperature of 315 K for a magnetic field change of 0.62 T were observed. Applied voltage across the composite shifts the metamagnetic transition by ~4 K in cooling and by ~3 K in heating. The magnitudes of the magnetoelectric and magnetocaloric effects depend on the strain/stress of magnetic Fe

layer by piezoelectric PbZr

Ti

O
₃
layer as results of applying electric field and can be used for controlling the magnetic properties of the caloric materials.
