The in vivo mechanical loading history of bone

Recent work to quantify a bone's strain history illustrates the complexity of its in vivo mechanical loading, a complexity similar to that found in many other physiological systems. Further quantification of the mechanical loading of bone will help one to understand the mechanism of the bone mechanosensory system and will also be useful as a physiological input for in vitro and in vivo bone experiments as well as for input for computational models of bone adaptation.
