A low cost wireless sensor network for precision agriculture

Wireless sensor networks can be used in a wide range of applications. Cost requirements of existing wireless sensor network hardware prevent its usage in agriculture. It is required that the sensor networks cost to be optimized so that it is affordable to farmers. This paper discusses the implementation of a low cost wireless sensor network for agriculture. It uses modified source routing protocol (MSR) i n conjunction with a simple localization technique for routing. The working of MSR was validated through hardware deployment. An octave based simulation program was also developed for validation of the range-free source based localization technique.
