Estimation of Teager Energy using EMD

An algorithm to estimate the Teager Energy (TE) based on Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and Hilbert-Huang Transform (HHT) is proposed in this paper. The signal whose energy is to be estimated is decomposed into Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs) by EMD process and further analytical signal is reconstructed using Hilbert Transform (HT) to estimate instantaneous values of amplitudes and frequencies. The actual energy expression is directly proportional to the product of the square of the amplitudes and frequencies of the signal at that instant of time. The Teager Energy of the signal under consideration is derived by adding all the energies of the IMFs. On observation of the results, it is evident that the energy is always positive and it has overcome the limitations that are imposed by Teager Energy Operator (TEO).
