The European Union Fifth Framework Programme

The European Union's Fifth Framework Programme continues the series of large-scale, collaborative shared-cost R&D programmes launched in 1984. Using a novel focused and flexible structure, it will contribute to the major policies of concern to Europe's citizens at the millennium: globalisation of the economy, trade and knowledge; job creation; and quality of life and health.
