Response optimization and LQR based control for Quarter Car suspension with Seat-Driver model

The suspension system aims to provide ride comfort and ride quality. It insulates car frame from road disturbances and smoothen road shock. This paper presents Quarter Car suspension with Seat-Driver (QCSD) model, focuses on optimization of parameters and development of control algorithm. Active set algorithm is used to obtain optimal parameters for designing of vehicle suspension and seat suspension. Optimized model shows fewer vibrations with comparison of original system. Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) and Fuzzy Logic Controller (FLC) are applied to QCSD model to reduce vibrations at head, upper torso and sprung mass LQR based controller has better settling time than FLC for step input.
